A DonnaWorld Movie Review

Serendipity
In this heartwarming animated feature from Disney, Kate Beckinsale provides the voice for everyone's favorite pink sea monster, Serendipity. Serendipity spends her time frolicking in the ocean with Trapper, the wisecracking baby white harp seal voiced by John Cusack.
In Disney tradition, Serendipity and Trapper sing several songs. Among them, "Swim in the sea," which seemed suspiciously close to "Under the sea" from The Little Mermaid. Now, I can understand that the similarities between the two songs may just be a coincidence. But that doesn't explain the actual reuse of a song from The Black Cauldron, "I'm going to take over the world with my army of walking skeletons." It IS a good song, but that doesn't change the fact that there are NO walking skeletons in Serendipity!
The plot takes a dark turn after the skeleton song, as Serendipity and Trapper encounter a fishing boat. This boat is just reeling in a net full of dolphins. Upon spotting Serendipity and Trapper, the crew of Japanese businessmen begin shooting harpoons at the lovable, highly marketable pair. Trapper is struck by one of these harpoons, and the water around him immediately turns blood red.
A fire lights in Serendipity's eyes, and she grows to ten times her normal size. The Japanese businessmen cringe in fear and begin muttering about super saiyan or card captor Sakura or something like that. Serendipity breathes a jet of flame at the now tiny fishing boat, setting it on fire and killing all the businessmen. She then somehow heals Trapper with her mental powers, and tells him that she now knows who she is, and it has brought her happiness. They then swim into the distance together as the credits roll. A heartwarming ending for a heartwarming story. I give it four heartwarming Donnas.
