A DonnaWorld Movie Review

Riding in Cars with Boys
This movie updates the popular 80’s television series “Knight Rider.” Drew Barrymore gives her voice to an updated K.I.T.T., the talking car (this time taking the form of a lime green VW Beetle) while David Hasselhoff reprises his role as the guy who’s big in Germany.
The new K.I.T.T. has a habit of driving off and picking up good looking young men. She pulls up alongside them and uses lines such as “Hey there, want to take me for a ride?“ This leads to a series of comic misadventures as David Hasselhoff must chase K.I.T.T. around the city.
However, the story takes a dark turn when the men that K.I.T.T. had been taking for rides begin showing up murdered. K.I.T.T., of course, is the most likely suspect, and even Hasselhoff begins to wonder if he can trust her. Determined to prove her innocence, K.I.T.T. sets up a trap to catch the real killer.
The killer turns out to be none other than Herbie the Love Bug, star of several Disney films of the 70‘s and 80‘s. Herbie, an old style VW Bug, is only able to communicate by honking his horn. His jealousy of K.I.T.T.’s speech synthesizer has caused him to frame her for the grisly murders. When the two cars finally meet, they quickly fall in love and live happily ever after. Now, I'm always a sucker for a good murder mystery/love story featuring cars, so I give this film four Donnas.
